At least five families have been displaced by an early morning fire in Chilliwack.
The Chilliwack Fire Department and Chilliwack RCMP were on the scene in the Sardis community of Chilliwack Wednesday morning.
At least two homes, a number of garages and at least one carriage house have been destroyed in the new complex in the 45000-block of Safflower Crescent.
Assistant Fire Chief Andrew Brown says the calls came in around 3 a.m.
“When we arrived on scene, we found three garages, one carriage home, and two residential structures heavily involved in the fire,” he said.
Firefighters set up a defensive attack to get the fire under control.
Brown said it appears everyone in the buildings got out safely.
“The challenge of any fire, especially a larger fire, is resources and coordinating those resources for a successful attack and building an action plan is key to that,” added Brown.
The cause of the fire is not known at this time.
Brown says about 16 structures have sustained damage.
If anyone has any information about this fire, they are asked to call the RCMP at 604-792-4611 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or www.chilliwackcrimestoppers.ca
