If you watch any medical show on TV, surgeons always seem to have music playing in the operating theatre. And this actually happens. Many surgeons use music as a way to create a comfortable atmosphere in what’s normally a pretty stressful environment. And playing music while operating is a smart thing for both the surgeon and the patient.
Several studies have shown that listening to music while operating reduces heart rate, blood pressure and other stress indicators. A more relaxed surgeon usually equals a better-performing surgeon. Another study on anesthesiologists showed the same thing: less tension and stress, more focus on the job at hand. This leads to the next question.
What kind of music is best? That’s next time
